First auto-sale slump in 21 mths, on parts shortage

According to data compiled by the Toyota Motor Thailand, in the month, vehicle sales reached 55,851 units. Toyota attributed the decrease in sales to the lower production at several Japanese auto plants.

Japan's earthquakes and tsunami led to devastating results on many parts and compoenents makers in Japan. Supply disruption forces many plants to cut down production accordingly.

According to the data, of total 55,851 units sold, passenger cars accounted for 23,576 units which showed a drop of 15.2 per cent from the same period last year. Meanwhile, commercial vehicles, which include one-tonne pickup, totalled 32,275 units which was a 6.2 per cent decrease on year.
