Thai Wing, which is to be pressed into service in May or June next year, is positioned differently from budget airlines Nok Air and Thai Tiger Airways. Thai Tiger also has not yet been launched.
All the 11 narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft are fit for short-haul destinations. They would also be used to service some routes under THAI, which has to run connecting flights to short-distance destinations like Chiang Mai.
Last Saturday, the company's board of directors approved the acquisition of 37 aircraft through purchase and leasing at a cost of Bt118.6 billion. The eight-year delivery schedule will add six Boeing B777-300ER, 12 Airbus A350, 11 Airbus A320 and eight Boeing B787 aircraft to the fleet.
The 37 aircraft are part of a plan to acquire 75 new aircraft. The criteria for the procurement of the remaining 38 aircraft over 2018-22 will be proposed to the board for approval later.
