Policy rate not too high, insists central bank

The central bank's Monetary Policy Committee has raised the policy rate by 150 basis points since last July to 3.00 per cent.

Fibre-optics deal

Simat Technologies announced that it had signed an operating lease agreement for an optical-fibre system with CAT Telecom for Nakhon Ratchasima province on June 10.

Expected revenue from the project over five years is Bt464 million. A bank on Tuesday approved credit facilities of Bt200 million to finance the project.

'Amazing Moment' winner

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has awarded "The Most Amazing Moment" prize to Marco Steuri of Switzerland for his submission "From the North to the South of Thailand". He will receive a US$10,000 (Bt306,000) cash award and a TAT certificate.

The "Most Amazing Moment" campaign is part of a wider campaign called "The Most Amazing Show on Earth", which invites past visitors to share their stories of Thailand for a chance to win that prize and become the inspiration for a film.
